WE HAVE OCCUPANTS

The June flock closed on their mansion tonight and finally made it into their chicken house, well most of them.

We all agreed it would be best to move the chicks at night, after they had gone to bed.  It's cooler, for one, but also they'd be more docile and easier to catch.

So at 7:40 tonight Hubs, Caleb and I, head across the pasture with our plastic tubs in tow. Nonnie comes out the house, chastising us for not waiting until they're "in bed".  They were already in the house, just not in the pen within the house.  "I know, Mom, but I want to watch the Astros. Plus, I hear thunder. It's gonna rain!"
"You can go home then, and come back. Melynda and I will get 'em. You don't want to STRESS THEM OUT." (Meaning sudden, inevitable death) Chris, ever the Hufflepuff, acquiesced. We went in to watch the game at Nonnie's and wait until dark.

While we were waiting, a deal was struck between Nonnie and Caleb. Nonnie, sweet and gentle though she be, has no problem saying no. To anyone but Caleb. He realized that his favorite chicken, a huge Dominicker pullet he nicknamed "Big Chungus", was always Nonnie's chicken and wouldn't be coming to our house after all. Well, Nonnie can't disappoint her boy, so she agreed to trade BC for a Dominicker to be named later.

After an inning, it was nice and dark and raining like the Dickens. So, off we trod across the yard to capture the chickens, at last.
To be fair, they were extremely docile, never attempting to escape the bins. We hauled them back across the pasture in the pouring rain and moved them into their palace.  We put them up on a roost and left the bins upturned in case they need to get down and back up.

I can't wait to wake them up in the morning. In fact, I think I need to double-check them before bed.  BRB.
